Part One of Turn to the Lord immerses you in an holistic presentation of the Catholic faith.
Turn to the Lord is a two-part book. The first part is written directly to you – directly for you – as parent, teacher, catechist, sponsor, godparent, mentor. Part one is called “The Power and Wisdom of God.”
The presentation of the Catholic faith that you will find here is arranged both narratively and biblically. We begin with the narrative of St. Paul, in multiple parts, whose conversion and transformation into what I describe as “a source of goodness” leads us to the person of Christ.
The contemplation of who Christ is serves as the centerpiece of this whole presentation, and it leads us to the practice of learning how to wait for the Lord.

The first half of part one of Turn to the Lord takes us on a journey from Paul to Christ, and into a disposition of Advent waiting to receive and respond to the Lord aright.
The second half of part one then concerns the study of Creation in order to discover who and what human beings are created to be. From there, we examine sin and the effects of sin. Again, all of this unfolds narratively and biblically.
We continue by exploring how our recovery from sin takes place through the Spirit, and how we grow in virtue to become capable of being who Christ frees us to be. Yes, this means we meditate on the gifts of the Holy Spirit and why they matter, the meaning of the body and of the sexes, the significance of chastity as a virtue, the conditions of discipleship beginning with Mary, and the mystery of the sacraments as building up the body of Christ.
All of this is presented together upon one keynote – the keynote of communion – because communion is at the heart of Catholicism, because Christ is the heart of the Church. Christ brings us into communion with God and into unity with one another. That is the Catholic whole.
By the end of part one of Turn to the Lord, you will certainly know more while also becoming practiced in a Catholic view of life, which is never something you can simply be told about. Instead, each of us has to be persuaded by its beauty and ultimately immersed in this way of the Lord.
